| On Spring Street, just around the
corner from the Post Office, in
historic Eureka Springs, Arkansas, is an antique 3-story limestone building
brimming with frogs - they say thousands, somewhere around seven thousand to be
more exact.
The collection began in 1937 when 5
year old Louise Mesa got a little plastic toy frog from a gumball machine in
Mexico while on family vacation. The family continued collecting through the
years with Louise's mother, Mabel Winters, heading up the collection committee. |
 |
| When Mabel scaled down houses 28
years ago, Louise inherited 5,000 frogs! It wasn't long before Louise and her
husband, Pat, noticed that friends were frustrated because they couldn't buy the
frogs so the idea for a museum and gift shop became a tadpole and grew into a
full scale FROG. |
There are frog sculptures, salt
shakers, spoons, soap dishes, plush toys, puppets, pipes, humidors, candy
dishes, ironing sprinklers and what-have-yous; and they are displayed in five
tightly packed rooms . . . come stay a spell. |
| Now housed at 151 Spring Street,
Eureka Springs, Arkansas, in the heart of the Ozarks, Frog Fantasies Museum &
Gift Shop has become famous with many articles in the nation's newspapers and
magazines. |
| Visitors can take home their own
treasures featuring frogs on everything from jewelry to plush toys - even
Christmas ornaments. Prices range from $2 to a $3,000 diamond encrusted pin! |
